IN THE VAULT 03/02/2015






This was the album that started it all for me...had to save up my 0.25 allowance for a few months to buy it...and it still holds up for me today.

 While this was the pop hit....


I think this one, sung by an eleven-year-old Michael, showed you a glimpse of the superstar he would become.

    Michael was a star from the outset. He was the successful product as well as the sad victim of his father's rigid discipline.

      Yep...a tragic story for sure...I think that's why this stuff still appeals to me.

      Besides the pure nostalgia, it is a portrait of MJ before the troubled times.

      And I guess it reminds me of me before I turned into a grumpy old man!

    I don't know if it's because he was less tainted (well, relatively) by the world at this point or if it's just the sound itself but I like this old school MJ a lot more than I liked King of Pop creepy white guy MJ. This one is in my vault as well, and I still pull it out periodically for a good, solid listen.

      Both incarnations had their formula-this was the Motown formula which I like better.

      Him trying to turn himself white did not help matters...

    I grew up listening to Jackson 5, and later enjoyed Michael as a solo artist. He was talented. A shame he was also so perverted. I still listen to his music sometimes, can't ignore his fabulous works.

    I remember getting a cardboard record (a 45) off a cereal box. Can't remember the name of the single or the cereal, but wasn't that cool? Can't do that with CDs.

      I had a couple of those-if memory serves me it was on Post cereals.

      Too bad we didn't save them on the box-they'd be worth something on eBay!

    I do believe we've chatted about MJ before, so I'm going to limit my comment here only to say (once again) that I think he was so talented. I totally get saving that allowance for this amazing record:)

    Also, I also remember 45s in the cereal boxes. Kids wouldn't know what to do with one of those crazy black discs today... hehehe.

      I read where kids are not even listening to a full song-that they have "heard enough" after a minute and a half (let alone the need for six second videos)...not only wouldn't they know what to do with the disc, but they would not have the attention span anyway!
