JOHN LENNON REMEMBERED

Three decades ago today, John Lennon was shot to death outside his home in New York's Dakota building. Lennon was murdered by a fan on Dec 8 1980.

No matter what you thought of his solo work or his political views or Yoko (that includes YOU, Stephen T!) there is no questioning the influence Lennon had on shaping the world of popular music during his tenure in that moderately successful band known as the Beatles.

Fans are gathering to pay tribute to John Lennon on the 30th anniversary of his death. One of the biggest tributes will take place in Central Park, at a spot dubbed Strawberry Fields, after the famous Beatles song.

Strange days indeed...

  1. Yes, he was an influential and wealthy communist jerk.

No one should ever be murdered, but frankly, I don't think the world is worse off without him.

My all-time least favorite Rock star... (jerk).

  2. Stephen minces no words, does he?

I was in high school when this happened. Seems so long ago.

  3. Alex-

Stephen's just jealous because John Lennon's record sales (solo and with Beatles) dwarf those of his favorites (Beach Boys and Waylon Jennings).

Secretly, I believe Stephen goes to sleep every night humming the melody to "Imagine," wrapped snug as a bug in his Beatles pajamas and John Lennon/Yoko Ono blanket. And wearing Beatle boots.

I was out of high school a year, but can still remember when they cut into "Monday Night Football" with the news.

At a minumum, Stephen, we agree that no one should be murdered. I think it's safe to say the death of any single entertainer does not make the world worse off.
