Philadelphia's Garret Dutton (aka G. Love) has had a 18 year career in the biz with a sound that combines hip-hop elements with blues elements over the course of 16 albums. As odd as that sounds, it works!
Sugar is G. Love's most recent album (2014), and is this week's treasure in the Vault!
I'd picked up an album years ago, and on first listen thought "WTF?" but as I listened it grew on me. He did a straight acoustic blues album ("Fixin' To Die") that I love.
I saw him earlier this year and the show was great.
What a name. This is actually the first I've heard of it, and of him, but I like it. A lot. It does work. I'm off to the vault...

It's kind of hip hop like but not a label that I'd immediately think to attach to the sound. Not bad.
