LANDMARQ "ENTERTAINING ANGELS"

They say the best things in life are worth waiting and with the majority of the songs on this album first given a live airing back in 2005, this one was certainly a wait. The studio recording was stalled when singer Tracy Hitchings was sadly diagnosed with cancer in 2007. Tracy struggled with the disease over three years and, happily, is back at one hundred percent. Tracy remains very much at the forefront of the band’s sound, her wonderfully compelling voice aided and abetted by memorable choruses and stunning instrumental work.  Her passionate, intoxicating vocals, at times cool and sensuous, at others breathlessly energetic and even sometimes sounding downright sinister are masterfully accompanied by stirring, Celtic flavors, lush keyboards with weaving synth patters, staccato instrumental outbursts and even the occasional blistering guitar solo, all held together by the pounding rhythm section.  The album has the obligatory token ballad with piano, orchestral keys and superbly melodic guitar work. Prog aficionados will warm to the monumental synth and guitar volleys that enhance many of the album's songs. The crisp production is top shelf.
Landmarq’s Entertaining Angels may have been a long time coming but it’s been well worth the wait.

My ususal reviews are bands that are somewhat under the radar...I think this month most of them are pretty obscure!

  3. I really like this. They have an interesting sound, with some haunting parts, and upbeat parts. It's an unusual mix.
