R.I.P. Brett Walker

Most of my readers will not recognize Brett Walker.

Although Brett has been in the music business for more than 20 years with various accolades to his credit, he never quite found the success that the fans of his work felt was his due.

Brett was known in industry circles for his musical work on TV shows and film, although he released several albums as a recording artist, with a new CD is due to be released in August.

Brett was looking forward to his concert performance at the Melodic Rock Fest in Chicago which would follow his new release.

Carl Brett Walker died peacefully in his sleep on July 8, 2013, a few months short of what would have been his fifty-second birthday. As of this writing, the cause of death was not known.

A celebration of Brett's life will be held in Southern California at a later date. Brett's band is planning to attend Melodic Rock Fest, and several vocalists are planning to front them for their set in what will be a bittersweet tribute performance.

    1. There was a time when 52 seemed old, but now that it's a couple of months away it's WAY too young!

      Looking forward to your CD!

  2. I wasn't familiar with this musician or his music, but I did listen to the videos. The music is very similar to the kind of stuff my son-in-law's band plays. (Only his vocals aren't as good as on the videos.)

Such a shame. He was too young to die, but when I go, I hope to go the same way he did.

    1. Susan-

I agree on the way out, but too young, especially with young kids.

I think kids should be guaranteed their parents lives through their high school graduation.

(and NO parent should ever lose a child-my mother has never recovered from that).

Does your son-in-law's band have any CD's? I'd be interested in hearing them.

  3. Brett was a close friend of mine . We grew up together. I,like all of our mutual friends still have no idea what the actual cause of death was.He was healthy and wasn't ill nor did he have an accident so we were told by his wife. She just said it was just his time to go. People just don't die for no reason. Is there anyone who could help us find out why he died?

    1. James, I am truly sorry for your loss.

I've been a fan of Brett's music since the late 90's, and was looking forward to the new album.

I hope you find some closure on this. Brett had a lot of fans that share your feelings of loss.

    2. James, Brett suffered incredible stress because of his legal battles with his ex wife, April 2006 to the fall of 2010. His health suffered because of that.

  4. James,
Thank you for expressing a voice of logic.
Brett's cause of death is still pending, according to his new wife. She told me that toxicology reports are due within a week or 2. I can tell you that Brett struggled with additiction for many years. If nothing else, that type of abuse can just wear your body out.

    2. Lecia, I told you that the toxicology report was expected to take 8 to 12 weeks NOT as you stated 1 to 2 weeks. And it sounds like you have made your own conclusion anyway. Being unhappy in his marriage to you and having to work 60 hours a week in an unfinished basement would cause anyone stress.

  8. Lecia, I am sad for your loss. I know the last few years of marriage were a challenge. The ignorant comment about you stressing him do his poor health was uncalled for, you were a great wife and a fantastic mother! You shared many amazing years with Brett.

  9. Wow... I feel horrible. I never meant to cause any problems of hardship for anyone.Especially any of his family. And I'm truly sorry. I just wanted to know what happened to one of my first friends in life. Again I'm terribly sorry.

    1. James-

That's the one down side to posting comments-easy to be misinterpreted and, being open to the public, can start a thread that was unintended.

I certainly did not intend to open up a controversy when making this post, but wanted to both spread the sad news and honor a musician who deserves recognition.

To all of you where were close to Brett, while I know the void is never truly gone, I hope time has made the loss a little easier.

I received Brett's final CD on Saturday, and what a shame he did not live to see the release of this fine album. I hope the album gets the attention it deserves.

I cannot make Melodic Rock Fest, but I know there is a tribute to Brett planned.

  10. Hello James,
You did not cause any harm by wanting to know what happened to Brett. We all want to know how/why he died. You may send me a message on facebook for more information. We all loved him and emotions are on the surface right now. I understand the tribute to Brett at the Melodic Rock Fest last weekend was a great success. All the efforts on his behalf have impressed me and our children. He was and is truly loved and will be greatly missed.

  11. What was so awesome about my Elementary school buddy Brett was that even in 4th or 5th grade he knew what he wanted to do, he loved music I remember listening to Bloodrock with Brett and he introduced me to a lot of music when we were young he called me about 5 or 6 years ago out of the blue we talked and laughed about our wild antics as kids running around Norman,i do know that Sheron had made him Happy so sad too soon to lose a great man. RIP Brett see ya up there someday
