CHRISTMAS WITH YOU

Over the years, I have amassed a slew of Christmas titles, and each December I get them out of the box for the season that celebrates the birth of Bethlehem's favorite (and God's only begotten) Son.

This year, I thought I'd share some of them with you.

Rick Springfield continues to record although his output in the last three decades has never come close to matching the commercial success of his eighties heyday-and don't try to tell me you never got caught singing along to "Jessie's Girl."

In 2005, he went back to General Hospital (where it all started), and in 2007 he released his holiday album.

CHRISTMAS WITH YOU

THE FIRST NOEL

  1. I will confess to more than Jesse's Girl. I watched GH back in the 70s (seems like that was when he was actually on the show... very late 70s) and he wasn't on all that long in the scheme of things. However, Dr. Noah Drake made an impression. GH fans loved him and his music career would never have launched without their support (mine included). As a teen, I saw him in concert. Oh, yes. I admit it.

I still watch GH, though not as doggedly as I used to. In fact, I have it recorded on the DVR, but I keep deleting shows without watching them. I think I have several months of just Fridays. And then I turned it off when I went to Orlando and forgot to turn it back on. The beauty of soap opera is that you can miss lots... and not really miss anything.

Anyway, yes, Noah Drake came back to GH in the mid-2000s but for short stints. I think he must've thought that briefly stepping into that role would help him musically. Well, it might've if he'd stuck with GH longer. Or it might not, since the fan base for daytime isn't what it used to be (as evidenced by daytime shows being drastically cancelled). Add to that, everything you've written about album sales... Well, I think the problem is easy to see.

I always liked this one a lot...

which was popular. And now I see in the sidebar that Sammy Hagar sang a song by the same name. BoTB material? Or a different song? I don't know.

And I liked this one a lot, but it was a B-side:

Everybody's got to fight their demons. You know I've had to fight mine, too. Living in Oz. Sometimes the dream can shake you. Living in Oz. Sometimes the dream can wake you, too.

    1. I used to catch grief from my friends back then-Rick churned out some impressively good songs. He's put out stuff pretty steadily through the years and I think does a decent live draw but of course record sales are down due to his demographic (I apparently am responsible for all CD consumption in the fifty-something bracket).

I got an error when I tried to follow your link-what song was it?

    2. I linked to two different songs. One was popular... I've Done Everything For You

The other was not... Living In Oz.

I had his Living In Oz album (on cassette tape). I pretty well knew the whole thing start to finish. All of the songs were good. It was interesting when I went to YouTube to see so many I hadn't heard in a very long time.

    3. If you want a copy of Living In Oz, shoot me an e-mail-I can burn it and send on.

  2. Rick was an underrated artist right from Speak To The Sky. All the teeny bop crap distracted from the fact he was a great entertainer. Jessie's girl was never my cup a joe, but I'll admit freely to singing along to Human touch.

    1. Well he certainly had record sales on his side. I liked "Human Touch" as well, but I think my favorite was from the Hard To Hold soundtrack (have never seen the film, but love the song), "Love Somebody."

  3. I remember him from GH, though I wasn't a faithful soap fan. Christmas with you is very lovely, as I remember my Mom today on her birthday. Thank you! Merry Christmas.

  4. Oddly enough there was a period when I watched GH faithfully. Obviously I wasn't working during the days--had an evening shift. I think that was about the time Springfield appeared on the show but I couldn't say for sure. I was more into the antics of Luke and Laura.
