IF WISHES WERE HORSES

Every year, my friends Stephen T. McCarthy and Nappy make a trek to a secret wishing well location to offer up his change and make a wish in the hopes that Tiny Tim will score a second top forty hit.

I don't know why the location is such a closely guarded secret, as the wish has not yet come true. Or has it? Could the wish be answered this coming Tuesday? Read on, and decide for yourself.

Hebert Buckingham Khaury, best known by his "Tiny Tim" alias, was most famous for his rendition of "Tiptoe Through The Tulips, which he recorded in a distinctive high falsetto voice, and was generally regarded as a novelty act.

In a 1970's Playboy interview-what, you thought men bought it for the pictures?-Tiny Tim said the following, which prompted Stephen T and Nappy's annual wishing trek:

“Most of all, I’d love to see Christ come back to crush the spirit of hate and make men put down their guns. I’d also like just one more hit single.”

They have even formed a loose association called "The Tiny Tim Wish Fulfillment Team" to bolster the power of their wishes.

Heck, I even made a wish this year. And while I am not claiming to have had the wish that made a difference, there is something very different about the 2010 wishes.

For you see, something is coming in 2011.

Something BIG.

On January 4, 2011, a limited vinyl LP pressing of "Lost & Found" drops, which contains tracks from Tiny's pre-fame and post-fame years, and "features some of the most intriguing, eclectic, and enjoyable material of his career."

Now a limited edition vinyl pressing is a far cry from a top 40 hit, but considering we're talking about a man who has been dead for a decade and a half, and who had his last hit more than forty years ago, I am wondering if maybe this is the wish coming true.

Stranger things have happened...

Hey, did you REALLY make a wish for Tiny Tim on Christmas Day? You told me before that you didn’t. What gives?!

Well, if you really did - on December 25th – please tell me so I can add your name to the Team Roster. If this is true, you make #8 on the Team, and #8 is a very spiritual number that, in Gematria, represents “a new beginning”. So, I felt all along that whoever claimed that #8 spot might really make a difference in our efforts.

Who knows, maybe this is the start of something BIG – something Top-40.

Did you know a link to my blog is included on the official Tiny Tim website, run by a true fan named Ernie Clark: wwwtinytim.org

Ernie and his website are mentioned in the booklet that comes with the Tiny Tim 3-CD box set put out by Rhino Records. I contacted him last year and he liked my blog about Tiny and our “Make A Wish” Campaign, so he included a link to my blog on his website.

But, say, where did you get the idea that the location of the STM/Nappy "Tiny Tim Wishing Site" is a closely guarded secret? As I wrote in my recent blog bit titled“The Tiny Tim Wishing Pond – 2010”:

Below are some photos I took at "the body of water" that Brother Nappy and I have been using to make our Christmas Day Tiny Tim wishes for over a decade. This "Wishing Pond" is located on the back dining patio of the Park Central Deli located at the Park Central Mall located in the downtown Phoenix, Airheadzona, area. (Yeah, you know the place I'm yakkin' about.) The Park Central Deli and its pond is just west of The Good Egg restaurant.

But – Shhhhh... - don’t tell anyone else! That’s a secret between you, me, Nappy, and whoever has access to the Worldwide Web.

  2. I knew about your post, but my post reads better with the location of the wishing well being secret...

I made my wish at your sister's place. You gave me grief about not making one and said
i'd have to leave, and I said "I just made one now."

So it was under duress, for ceratin, but a wish none the less.

Oh, I see, jus' makin' it up as you go along, eh? Works for me.

Well, but don't you feel better about it now?

What denomination of coin did you use and what body of water? A wish ain't properly baptized without a little water, ya know.

  4. I am so sad and ashamed. I again forgot to do the TT wish. Don't tell Stephen. He will be so disappointed in me. Christmas day has been such a hectic time for me over the past 2 years, but I know that's such a lame excuse.

    Oh well--as in wishing well.
